Visitor Presentation - SW Transit 2024 Year in Review
SouthWest Transit CEO, Erik Hansen, presented the 2024 Year in Review to the Council.
SouthWest Transit has three services:
- SW Transit (Bus Routes)
- SW Shuttle (Special Events)
- SW Prime (On-Demand Rideshare)
Overall ridership was up 20.5% while special event service was up 55%.
What is the future of SouthWest Transit?:
- Mobility study to determine the needs of future transit in Carver County
- They anticipate expanding Prime into new and current service areas
- Evaluating expansion of fixed routs
- Analyzing the expansion feasibility of their AV service pilot program
Letter of Intent for Tax Abatement to support Beckman Coulter Expansion
Beckman Coulter plans to expand their Chaska campus. The plan includes adding a two-story, 148,000 square foot building, with an estimated $50 million investment and 300 new full-time jobs over the next 2 to 3 years. Beckman Coulter has asked the City for help through a tax abatement. Staff believe this project brings major benefits, including more jobs and an expansion of the manufacturing facility, and support a tax abatement for the project.
