For MLK Day, the Chaska Human Rights Commission has created a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Human Rights Celebration virtual program.
The program will premiere on Monday, January 18 at 8:00 a.m. There are two ways you can watch:
This program gives us a chance to reflect on the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and it features a keynote address from Sharon Sayles Belton. Ms. Sayles Belton is the Vice President of Partnerships and Alliances for Thomson Reuters Government. From 1994 to 2001, she served as the Mayor of Minneapolis. Ms. Sayles Belton was the first woman and African American to be elected as the Mayor of Minneapolis.
The Chaska Human Rights Commission will also recognize the winner of the 2020 Chaska Human Rights Award, Lee Ann Winters.
Special thanks to Eastern Carver County Schools, the Chaska High School Speech Team, La Academia, Breakaway Academy, the Arts Consortium of Carver County, and community member Dontá Hughes for helping us make this virtual program a reality!
